Although it may not feel like it today, spring is coming and we are all looking forward to getting outside and enjoying warmer weather. Upper Moreland Township has an array of parks and walking trails that will soon be packed with residents from all over our area. We want both our residents and visitors to enjoy all that Upper Moreland has to offer in the spring, summer, and fall months.
Unfortunately, opportunistic criminals are also ready for this shift is weather and will soon try to take advantage of our oversights. Year after year, we receive reports of vehicles that were broken into while left in our parks and at our trail heads. These areas are commonly targeted due to the lengthy amount of time people will spend on outdoor activities without returning to their vehicles. Here are some important things to consider as we head into the warmer months:
- Leave your valuables at home, if possible
- If you must bring items of value, take them with you rather than leave them in the vehicle
- If you are unable to take valuable items with you, place them in the trunk or hide them out of sight. Do this before you arrive and out of the sight of those who may be watching the parking area.
- Take your keys with you
- LOCK YOUR DOORS - Remember: Most criminals are opportunistic and will bypass something that cannot be done discreetly. A locked car door will deter someone who is looking to quickly capitalize on our mistake.
Let's not let criminals rain on our day at the park. Remember these safety tips this spring.
Note: These are also great tips to remember as we head to the gym, grocery stores, movie theater, or any public place where our cars are left unattended for an extended period of time.
