Lower Moreland Police Department would like to remind our residents to remain vigilant when receiving unsolicited phone calls and texts. Scammers are becoming increasingly sophisticated. Educate and protect yourself from these fraudulent activities.

We'd like to share some tips to help you avoid falling victim to scam calls, texts, and even emails! 

• Be cautious of unknown numbers: If you receive a call or text from an unknown number, do not respond or engage with the caller. Legitimate organizations will not contact you out of the blue and ask for personal information.
• Verify the caller's identity: If someone claims to be from a government agency, bank, or other organization, hang up and call the organization directly to verify the caller's identity.
• Never give out personal information: Scammers may ask for sensitive information such as social security numbers, passwords, or financial information. Never provide this information to unknown callers or texts.
• Watch for red flags: Be wary of calls or texts that create a sense of urgency, threaten legal action, promise unrealistic deals, or ask for payment via PayPal, Venmo, gift cards, or Bitcoin.
• Report suspicious activity: If you receive a suspicious call or text, report it to the Federal Trade Commission (FTC) and your phone service provider.

Remember, it's always better to err on the side of caution when dealing with unsolicited calls and texts. If you're unsure about the legitimacy of a call or text, hang up or ignore the messages.
