On August 6th, 2022 at approximately 11:22am, Officers of The Pocono Township Police Department responded to Camelback Lodge, Tannersville, for a report of a physical domestic in a guest room. Upon arrival Security personnel informed Officers that two women and one male were involved, and the male was in the parking lot near a vehicle.
When Officers attempted to speak with the male, later identified as Kevin Chalmers, he jumped in a 2022 Hyundai Palisades bearing a NY registration and attempted to flee, ignoring commands to stop the vehicle. While attempting to leave Chalmers nearly ran over a responding officer before accelerating out of the parking lot at a high rate of speed. It was observed that the vehicle Chalmers was operating had a carseat in the back and a nearby woman relayed that there were children in the car.
Chalmers led officers on a high speed pursuit on Interstate 80 East in excess of 100 mph until it was ultimately called off.
Pennsylvania State Police Troopers did locate the Hyundai on Interstate 80 East a short time later and Chalmers was taken into custody without incident. Through a subsequent investigation it was discovered that Chalmers had assaulted his girlfriend's sister and fled with 3 children in the car. The children were ages 8, 5, and 1.
Chalmers is facing Felony charges of aggravated assault, endangering the welfare of a child (3 counts), fleeing or attempting to elude an officer, and misdemeanor charges of recklessly endangering another person (5 counts) and simple assault, Chalmers also faces several summary charges. Chalmers was placed in the Monroe County Correctional Facility where he was arraigned by the honorable Magistrate Gasper. Chalmers was given bail of $50,000 secured.
