On 03-17-19 at approximately 1752 hrs, City of Bradford Police Officers were dispatched to Uni Mart at 76 Chestnut St. to investigate a reported theft of money from the store and a flash drive which contained evidence for the Police Department of a separate crime. Officers were able to review surveillance footage with the store manager and observed a known male Gregory Paul Benavidez enter the store on 03-16-19 at approximately 0110 hrs with his associate Brandon Benjamin. The clerk is distracted by Benjamin for a lengthy period of time while Benavidez sneaks behind the counter into the rear Office of the store. At that time Benavidez can be seen on video stealing money from drawers and also money from a Donation jar on the counter which was to benefit a local family in crisis. Benavidez also steals an envelope containing a flash drive which was clearly marked Police Evidence from an un related crime. The two men were working together in a conspiracy to commit this theft. Officers learned that they had done this several other times throughout the last two weeks at the same location stealing money and food items each time. Benavidez was taken into custody at his residence 43 Foreman St. on 03-17-19 where he was found to be in possession of Marijuana and Paraphernalia. Benavidez advised that he burned the flash drive destroying it intentionally.
City Police charged Benavidez with Felony Criminal Tresspass, Felony Conspiracy to Criminal Tresspass, Misdemeanor Theft, Misdemeanor Conspiracy to Theft, Possession small amount of Marijauana, Possession of Paraphernalia, and Misdemeanor Tampering with evidence. Benavidez was arraigned by Magistrate Richard Luther and remanded to McKean County Jail on $50,000 cash bail.
