Hazleton, PA – August 9, 2026 – On August 10, 2026, at approximately 2:04 a.m., Hazleton City Police responded to the intersection of 3rd and Locust Streets for a reported motor vehicle crash.

The investigation determined that an E-bike, operated by Winston Cruel-Pena, 27, was traveling the wrong way on 3rd Street and proceeded through the intersection of 3rd and Locust Streets. The E-bike struck the rear passenger side of a Ford Escape that was traveling south on Locust Street.

Cruel-Pena sustained moderate injuries and was transported to a local hospital by EMS for treatment.

Alcohol is suspected to have been a contributing factor in the crash.

Charges are anticipated upon receipt and review of the blood test results.
