On Wednesday, 10/04/2023, Forty Fort Police Officer Tyler NORTON was patrolling the area of Murray Street and Oak Street due to recent vehicle break-ins and automobile thefts. At approximately 3:41 am, Officer NORTON and Swoyersville Police Officer Kevin WALKOWIAK saw a person wearing a face mask and all dark clothing prowling around cars. The person's clothing and actions were similar to those of a male who had fled from police several nights prior. The officers stopped the male and saw that he was wearing a surgical glove, similar to those worn by suspects in several recent vehicle break-ins. When NORTON and WALKOWIAK attempted to take the male into custody, the male fought with police then fled on foot. Officer NORTON pursued the male on foot for nearly 1,000 feet and captured him. Officers from Kingston, Edwardsville, Luzerne and Larksville Boroughs responded to assist.
The male was identified as a 15 year old Wyoming Valley West student. Officer NORTON learned through further investigation that the male had entered several unlocked vehicles.
Due to his age, the male will be referred to the juvenile courts with allegations including Escape (M2), Resisting Arrest (M2), Loitering and Prowling at Night (M3), Possessing Instruments of Crime (M1), Trespass (S), and Curfew (S).
An active investigation is underway to identify any possible accomplices.
