The Lebanon County Regional Police Department will be participating in a national "Click It or Ticket" enforcement mobilization from November 10 through November 30. During this period, our officers will be conducting high visibility enforcement to ensure motorists and their passengers are wearing their seat belts. Our department participates in this enforcement for the safety of everyone.
Key statistics and findings
- High survivability of unbuckled deaths: In 2020, it was estimated that 94% of the individuals who died in crashes in Pennsylvania could have survived had they been wearing a seat belt, according to a PennDOT Facebook post.
- Increased risk of injury: Unbuckled occupants are 50% more likely to be severely injured in a crash compared to those who are buckled up.
- Backseat passenger risk: Backseat passengers are also at high risk. A study indicated that unbuckled rear-seat passengers are 3 times more likely to die in a crash.
- Risk to belted drivers: Even if a driver is buckled up, an unbuckled passenger in the back seat can become a projectile, increasing the risk to the driver by more than double in a frontal crash.
