On 10/30/2020 at 1925 hours, SRPD observed a Silver Pontiac Bonneville passing a car in the 1700 Block of River Road and nearly striking the officer's patrol car. SRPD pursued the vehicle, which upon initiated emergency lighting, the vehicle began to flee at a high rate of speed and a pursuit ensued. The vehicle, while attempting to elude the officer, passed other vehicles and ran stop signs and was struck by a tractor trailer, causing a major collision and injuries to occupants of the vehicle. The driver of the fleeing vehicle, Anthony Mariani 4th, was driving without a license and was charged with the above offenses. Mariani is innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.
