Due to the recent increase in financial scams, SBPD encourages residents to take extra precautions before making any payments to unknown individuals.  

If someone contacts you claiming you owe money – especially if you are unaware of the debt – do not pay immediately.  This is particularly important if they claim it is urgent, demand payment via Bitcoin or other cryptocurrencies, pressure you to act quickly, or threaten consequences.  Before taking any action, please contact the police department to verify the legitimacy of the claim.
