The Strasburg Borough Police Department wants everyone to have a joyful and SAFE holiday season!  Please look at these important fire safety tips to ensure that your festivities continue long into the season!

• If you are using a real Christmas tree, be sure to water it regularly.  Dry trees are more likely to catch fire and burn quicker.
• If you are using an artificial Christmas tree, be sure the one you choose is labeled as being fire resistant.
• Keep trees away from fireplaces, radiators and other heat sources.
• Do not overload your sockets with too many plugs.
• Be sure to check Christmas lights for damaged or frayed wires and make sure that you use lights marked for use “outdoors” or “indoor/outdoor” when placing them outside.
• Use battery operated candles for decorating rather than real candles.  Today, many artificial candles look very real.
