In an effort to support the Strasburg Fire Company and help raise funds lost due to the recently canceled Spring Mud Sale, Strasburg Rail Road is announcing its first Community Give-Back Day of the year on Saturday, March 20. During the event, half of all proceeds from its passenger trains will be donated to the Strasburg Fire Company, located at 203 W. Franklin Street, Strasburg, PA.
Strasburg Fire Company’s Mud Sale, originally scheduled for February 27, is the firehouse’s largest fundraiser bringing in an estimated $50,000 each year. The money raised is used to keep the volunteer-run department operating. Each year, the fire company responds to more than 200 calls in Strasburg, Eden and Paradise Townships.
On March 20th, Strasburg Rail Road will operate five trains between 11 am and 6 pm. Half of all train ticket sales, will be donated to Strasburg Fire Company. Each ride includes the 45-minute signature steam train experience through more than 2,500 acres of breathtaking farmland. Equipment from Strasburg Fire Company’s fleet of engines and firefighting apparatus will be on display at the railroad for Guests to view.
“So many businesses, Strasburg Rail Road included, are in a tough financial position due to the impacts and restrictions associated with the COVID-19 pandemic,” states Tony Gebbia, President of Strasburg Rail Road. “Now more than ever we believe in supporting our community and if we can give back to help ensure Strasburg Fire Company has the funds it needs to protect the residents and businesses in our community, we are honored to do so.”
Founded in 1832, Strasburg Rail Road is one of Pennsylvania’s leading family attractions and is home to museum-quality, working, turn-of-the-century steam locomotives, freight cars, dining cars, private cars, and one of the largest fleets of historic wooden passenger cars in the world.
