The 2024 Beards for Brothers (BFB) campaign has officially begun! Police Officers and first responders from many local departments will be participating in a " No-Shave" November campaign to help raise awareness for Cancer. This is the 10th year that the Chiefs of Police have waived their departments' facial hair policies and will allow officers to grow beards through November. We are proud to be joined by local Volunteer Firefighters, EMS, and Dispatchers from all over Lancaster County.
This year the Beard for Brothers campaign will raise money for two recipients:
Myles Hoffman:
Myles has been serving the Columbia Borough and the surrounding area as a volunteer firefighter for Columbia Borough Fire Department, Station 80, for the last four years. Myles is 18 years old and a graduate of Donegal High School. Myles enjoys volunteering, helping the people of Columbia, and completing his chores at the fire house. Myles has responded to countless fires, car crashes, and other calls of service. Myles takes pride in his service to Columbia area and values his brothers and sisters he serves with at Station 80. On June 1st, 2024, Myles was diagnosed with stage II highly unfavorable Hodgkin's lymphoma. Myles has a 15 cm tumor in his left chest behind his heart. Myles is currently receiving treatment and faces many uncertainties during this time.
Spencer Kling:
Spencer Kling is currently an Assistant Supervisor at Lancaster County Wide Communications (LCWC). LCWC is vital to the success and safety of the first responders and the people calling 911 during an emergency. Spencer has been working at LCWC for four years. Since 2014, Spencer has served various communities as a volunteer firefighter, earning the rank of Lieutenant. Currently, Spencer is a firefighter with the Elizabethtown Fire Company.
Spencer married his wife, Tori, in 2020 and they are currently expecting their second child. Spencer and Tori have a beautiful two-year-old daughter, Blakely. Blakely was diagnosed with Leukemia on July 20, 2024. Blakley currently has a 2 1/2 to 3 year treatment plan. The treatment has a high success rate of curability but will be a long and hard road because cancer has many unknowns. Tori has been off work to care for Blakely, herself, and their unborn baby.
