Update to Homicide Investigation - 1st block of Conestoga Street

On September 7, 2016, at approximately 2138 hrs., officers from the Lancaster City Bureau of Police were dispatched to the area of Beaver Street and Conestoga Street for a stabbing.   The officers arrived at the scene and located a male victim laying on the ground, at the intersection.   The victim was unresponsive at the scene, and the first responding officers and EMS attempted to render aid to the victim.   The victim was immediately transported to Lancaster General Hospital.   Attempts to save the victim’s life were unsuccessful and he was later pronounced dead.   The victim has been identified as a 20 year-old Lancaster man.   His identity is not being released at this point, pending notification of next of kin.

Detectives from the Lancaster City Bureau of Police have been conducting witness interviews and processing the crime scene for evidence.   Detectives have learned that there was a verbal dispute between the victim and another man, which then became physical.   During the physical altercation, it appears that the victim was stabbed in the torso at least once and collapsed a short distance away.   The man who allegedly stabbed the victim, remained at the scene and is currently at the Lancaster City Police station to be interviewed.    This subject is not being identified at this point, as the investigation continues.    Investigators are trying to determine what precipitated the confrontation between the two men and the events that led to the victim being stabbed.

UPDATED INFORMATION AS OF SEPTEMBER 8, 2016

The victim has been identified as Hiram CALDERON, a 20-year old resident of the 1st block of E. Frederick Street.   As the investigation continued throughout the night, detectives conducted several witness interviews, as well as an interview with a person of interest who is believed to have stabbed the victim.   The detectives also reviewed video footage from cameras in the area, and this is a continuing aspect of the investigation.    The person of interest was released after being interviewed, pending additional investigation.   The investigation is still very active and on-going.   The detectives from the Lancaster City Bureau of Police are working closely with the Lancaster County District Attorney's Office on this case.
