On June 24, 2026, at approximately 9:30 p.m., officers responded to the 600 block of East Mifflin Street for a reported stabbing.
According to witnesses, the defendant stabbed the victim, whom he knew, multiple times before fleeing the area. Using witness descriptions, officers located and stopped the suspect on East King Street on June 25 at 11:29 a.m. Roberto Vasguez-Cruz, 50, was taken into custody.
Within 24 hours of the incident, Detective Snader filed charges against Vazguez-Cruz, including one count of Criminal Attempt Homicide, one count of Aggravated Assault, and one count of Possession of Instruments of Crime. The charges were filed before Magisterial District Judge Jodie Richardson.
He was arraigned before Magisterial District Judge Mary Sponaugle and committed to Lancaster County Prison after bail was set at $200,000 cash.
The Lancaster City Bureau of Police commends the quick response of the patrol officers and the investigative work of detectives, leading to the suspect’s arrest and the filing of charges within 24 hours of the incident.
All suspects are presumed innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.
