On Wednesday, June 24, 2026, in Lancaster County Central Park, Brandon Cunningham, 32, shot at two people as they were walking through the park. Cunningham struck Kevin Lucas, 47, before turning the gun on himself.
Officers with Lancaster Township Police and Lancaster County Park Rangers responded to Lancaster County Central Park at approximately 6:37 p.m. and discovered the victims at the scene. The scene was determined to be within the City of Lancaster, and officers with the Lancaster City Bureau of Police were dispatched at approximately 6:48 p.m. to conduct the investigation.
Lucas was pronounced dead at the scene by the Lancaster County coroner. Cunningham was transported to Lancaster General Hospital for treatment, where he died Friday, June 26. The individual Lukas was with was not struck by gunfire. The victims were not known to Cunningham.

On Wednesday, June 24, 2026, the Lancaster County Coroner's Office responded to Lancaster County Central Park in reference to a shooting incident. Coroner investigators arrived and pronounced the death of an adult male who was identified as 47-year-old Kevin Lucas of Lititz, PA. Lucas was one of two individuals found with gunshot wounds by responding agencies. The other individual was transported to a local hospital for treatment.
Lucas was transported to the Lancaster County Forensic Center for further investigation. An autopsy for Lucas was performed on Friday, June 26. The cause of death was determined to be Gunshot Wound to Neck, and the manner of death was ruled a homicide.
Also on Friday, June 26, the Lancaster County Coroner’s Office responded to Penn Medicine Lancaster General Hospital where the other individual, identified as 32-year-old male Brandon Cunningham of East Hempfield Township, was pronounced deceased. The cause of death was determined to be Gunshot Wound to Head, and the manner of death was ruled a suicide.
The Lancaster City Bureau of Police continues to investigate this incident.

The Lancaster City Bureau of Police (LCBP) is working closely alongside the Lancaster County Coroner’s Office to conduct a thorough investigation into the cause and manner of death of the deceased.
The other individual is in critical condition, and the investigation into his status is ongoing.
LCBP investigators are confident that there is no ongoing threat to the public.

The scene was determined to be within the City of Lancaster, and officers with the Lancaster City Bureau of Police were dispatched at approximately 6:48 p.m.
Upon arriving on the scene, officers encountered two individuals with gunshot wounds. One individual was declared deceased at the scene, while the other was transported to a local hospital for treatment. The condition of the individual transported to the hospital is unknown at this time.
There is no reason to believe there is any threat to the public at this time.
