A West Hempfield Township man was charged yesterday with surreptitiously videotaping a woman and 10-year-old child in his bathroom, then hoarding the images on his computer.
Thomas Matthew Bradley, 42, was charged with photographing a sex act, two counts of sexual abuse of children, unlawful contact with a minor, criminal use of a communication facility, corruption of minors and invasion of privacy.
Pennsylvania State Police, along with HSI and members of the Central Computer Crimes Task Force executed a search warrant at Bradley’s residence in the 3500 block of Marietta Avenue on Thursday morning, recovering the computer which contained nude images and videos of the juvenile in the shower.
Additional videos depicting other nude children being sexually abused were also found on Bradley’s computer.
Investigators first began looking into Bradley in February after receiving a tip from Homeland Security Investigations’ Cyber Crimes Center that two unidentified victims – one of them a juvenile – were secretly filmed on spy cameras placed in a bathroom. Though HSI special agents were unsure who the victims were, they believed them to reside in the Harrisburg or York areas.
Facial recognition technology helped trace an adult and juvenile victim to the Lancaster area and ultimately helped identify them to law enforcement as a mother and daughter.
When police spoke to the victims they were unaware that they had been filmed and identified the bathroom in the photos as belonging to Bradley.
In a preliminary arraignment Thursday morning Judge Miles Bixler set Bradley’s bail at $25,000. Bradley remains in Lancaster County Prison in lieu of that amount.
Pennsylvania State Police Trooper Brian Kundick filed the charges.
Assistant District Attorney Fritz Haverstick will prosecute the case.
All defendants are presumed innocent until proven guilty.
