A Columbia man will face 11 charges in the Lancaster County Court of Common Pleas following a preliminary hearing Tuesday afternoon in the Lancaster County Courthouse before Magisterial District Judge David P. Miller.
The evidence presented at the hearing was sufficient to hold over the charges against Tyler Jamar Wilson, 28 of the 200 block of S. 4th Street, regarding the killing of 25-year-old Jatavis Scott at Club Twenty3 in Manheim Township around 1:23 a.m. on March 19.
Wilson will face a count each of criminal homicide, prohibited possession of a firearm, carrying a firearm without a license and eight counts of recklessly endangering another person.
First Deputy District Attorney Travis Anderson presented testimony from Manheim Township Police Department Detective Nicholas Fritz, who is leading the investigation and filed charges.
A video compilation created by Detective Fritz was also presented displaying footage from Club Twenty3’s interior and exterior cameras, a witness’s phone recording, and a Sheepdog Protective Services vehicle that showed before, during and after the shooting.
Prior convictions of felony drug offenses, which make Wilson unable to possess a firearm, were also entered into evidence by Anderson.
According to testimony, an altercation between Wilson and Scott began at the nightclub which security was able to move outside into the parking lot.
Both parties with the defendant and victim eventually separated before Wilson and his party followed Scott’s.
Wilson and Scott fought again, were broken up for a moment, and then nearly reconvened before the deadly shots were fired.
All the parties dispersed, and Scott collapsed closer to Eden Road.
The Commonwealth argued video evidence showed a flash from the discharging of a firearm that Wilson possessed; defense argued that it was impossible to tell who fired the shot.
Detective Fritz testified that two shell casings and multiple blood spatter was found which was consistent with the rest of the evidence that Wilson was the shooter.
The Lancaster County Coroner’s Office ruled Scott’s cause of death as gunshot wound to the chest and manner as homicide.
A Lancaster County Court of Common Pleas Judge has not yet been assigned to the case.
Wilson is presumed innocent until proven guilty.
Assistant District Attorney Jessica Collo assisted in the proceedings.
