A New Holland man will face charges of rape of a child, incest, aggravated indecent assault, indecent assault, corruption of minors, unlawful contact with a minor, and indecent exposure in Lancaster County Court.
Richard Sherman, 45 of the 500 block of W. Main Street, waived his preliminary hearing last Friday before Magisterial District Judge Jonathan Heisse.
On Nov. 1, 2023, the New Holland Borough Police Department received a Childline referral regarding Sherman engaging in sexual misconduct with a minor and a forensic interview was scheduled at the Chester County Children’s Advocacy Center.
The victim disclosed through interviews and journal entries that Sherman had sexual contact with her and threatened to hurt the victim’s mother if the victim told anyone.
Sherman was interviewed by police on Dec. 14, 2023, and admitted to engaging in sex acts with the victim on multiple occasions.
Sherman is scheduled to be arraigned on April 12, 2024, at 9 a.m.
All defendants are presumed innocent until proven guilty.
New Holland Borough Police Detective Joshua Bitner filed charges.
Assistant District Attorney Steve Sess is prosecuting the case.
