A Mount Joy Township man charged with injuring two elderly women when he crashed into them head-on while driving drunk will have his case proceed to county court after waiving his preliminary hearing.
Ranson Eldrick Lal, of the 800 block of Westbrooke Drive, waived his preliminary hearing before Judge Frank Ember on Feb. 27 on charges of aggravated assault by vehicle while driving under the influence, driving under the influence and reckless driving.
Lal, 22, is accused of crashing head-on into the victim’s vehicle in the 500 block of Cloverleaf Road in Mount Joy Township the evening of Nov. 14, 2025.
Two victims, ages 75 and 83, suffered multiple fractured ribs, broken neck bones and fingers that required splits for six weeks.
One of the victims was sent to intensive care and required a neck brace for 17 weeks as a result of injuries sustained in the crash. The same victim was still wearing the brace when Lal waived his preliminary hearing.
An officer who spoke with Lal at the scene suspected he was drunk. Lal failed multiple field sobriety tests and a preliminary breath test showed a high percentage of alcohol in his system, though he refused to provide a second valid breath sample.
Data analyzed from Lal’s vehicle showed he was travelling nearly twice the speed limit mere moments before the collision.
Lal is currently free on $10,000 unsecured bail.
Northwest Regional Police Officer Seth Arnold filed the charges.
All defendants are presumed innocent until proven guilty.
