A Mount Joy Township man was sentenced to 5 to 11 years in prison after being found guilty on multiple felony and misdemeanor charges regarding inappropriate sexual contact he had with two minors.
Omar Martinez, 37, was found guilty by a jury on July 19 for committing felony crimes of aggravated indecent assault, indecent assault, corruption of minors and unlawful sexual contact with a minor and misdemeanor charges of indecent exposure.
In speaking with a detective from West Hempfield Township Police Department and Lancaster County Children’s Alliance in 2019, both victims disclosed the abuse occurred when they were around middle school age.
Martinez, who knew the victims, was convicted on one charge each of aggravated indecent assault, corruption of minors, unlawful contact with a minor and indecent exposure and two counts of indecent assault involving one victim.
Martinez committed similar instances of assault, contact and corruption with the other victim and was convicted on two counts of indecent assault and one count each of corruption of a minor and unlawful contact with a minor.
On numerous occasions, Martinez assaulted the victims and exposed them to sexually inappropriate videos and behavior. On at least one occasion, he told the victims not to tell anyone about what happened.
West Hempfield Township Police Department Detective George Brace filed charges and outlined in an affidavit of probable cause the conduct that happened in 2014 at Martinez’s home on Jasmine Place.
Assistant District Attorney Karen Mansfield prosecuted the case and asked for consecutive sentences, in order for each victim to have their own sentence.
“The defendant showed absolutely no remorse and the fact that he and his wife had two separate meetings with their families in an attempt to discredit and blame the victims was repulsive and offensive,” Mansfield said.
Lancaster County Judge Jeffery Wright ordered sentence, told the victims they were heroes and said he admired their strength.
