A Manheim Township man was convicted on five felony burglary charges following a spree spanning four months at multiple locations in 2019.
Zachary Arthur May, 36, was sentenced to 5 to 15 years in state prison by Lancaster County Judge Dennis Reinaker on November 12 for the string of burglaries committed from June-September in 2019.
May first broke into High Sports in Lititz on June 6 after coming into the business earlier in the day. He returned later that night and broke into several change machines and buildings.
Manheim Township police responded to reports of theft at various buildings including the golf pro shop, Sandtrap restaurant, pool, and roller rink at the Overlook Community Center owned by Manheim Township on multiple occasions in June of 2019 and once in September of 2019.
In total, the burglaries caused over $10,000 in damages. Money, a gift card, and a vehicle key were all reported stolen.
The prosecution presented cell phone location data and surveillance footage that linked May to the crimes.
Following his conviction, Judge Reinaker imposed an aggregate sentence of 5-15 years. Additionally, May pled guilty to two criminal trespasses occurring in Schuylkill County about the same time as the burglaries. May had previously broken into churches and an elementary school in Berks and Lancaster Counties in 2016 and was on state parole at the time of the latest burglaries.
Manheim Township Police Department Lt. Brian Freysz and Detective Theresa Stauffer filed charges. The case was prosecuted by Assistant District Attorney Cody Wade
