A Lancaster city woman has been charged after being involved in a crash on Route 30 that killed two people and seriously injured two others on August 22, 2021. Charges were filed exactly a year after the crash following an extensive investigation.
Whitney Webb, 27 of the 600 block of Poplar Street, is charged with accident involving death or personal injury, accident involving damage to an attended vehicle, fleeing the scene, failure to notify police, driving with a suspended license, and driving without a license.
The first charge is a second-degree felony, the second a third-degree misdemeanor, and the rest are summary offenses.
On August 22, 2021, around 2:39 a.m., West Hempfield Township Police Officers were dispatched to a multi-vehicle fatal crash on Route 30 near mile 258.2 in Mountville Borough. West Hempfield Township Police Department contracts services with Mountville, therefore the location is within its jurisdiction.
Upon arrival, Officers located operators of a BMW and Chrysler involved in the crash who were deceased. Two passengers in the BMW sustained severe injuries.
Two witnesses of the crash relayed seeing a dark Mazda 3 collide with the BMW, which swerved and went up a small embankment before rolling over onto the highway on its roof. The Chrysler then struck the front end of the BMW and veered off to the right.
Officers obtained information that Webb was the driver of the Mazda and obtained a search warrant to seize the vehicle, which was parked outside of Webb’s residence.
Analysis of Webb’s cellular phone records showed the device being located in the area of the crash at the time and date it occurred.
Webb is presumed innocent and was arraigned in lieu of $25,000 unsecured bail.
West Hempfield Township Police Department Sergeant Ryan Draper filed charges and is the lead investigator in the case.
Assistant District Attorney Kyle Linardo approved charges.
