A Lancaster Township man was sentenced to 27 and a half to 55 years in prison after he pleaded guilty earlier this year to committing more than 200 different thefts and burglaries over the course of three months in 2023.
Judge Merrill Spahn handed down the sentence on April 16 to Johnathan Carlos Carmona, of the first block of Hoover Road. Carmona had previously pleaded guilty last August to 222 different felony and misdemeanor offenses related to the thefts.
Carmona, 29, stole from cars, homes and garages in West Lampeter, East Lampeter, Manheim, Manor, Lancaster, East Hempfield, West Hempfield, West Donegal and Lower Swatara townships on 22 different nights between October and December 2023. The crime spree began within a month of Carmona being released from prison for similar offenses.
Items stolen included two handguns, chainsaws, leaf blowers and other power tools, speakers, laptops, hard drives and other electronics, as well as purses, wallets, checks, credit cards, gift cards and cash. Carmona then sold many of the stolen items online.
In one case, Carmona entered a victim’s vehicle in the 800 block of Woodridge Drive in Lower Swatara Township and stole a 9mm handgun and other items.
On multiple occasions Carmona took photos of victims’ credit cards and other personal information but did not take the cards themselves, instead intending to commit identify fraud. Other times Carmona entered victims’ vehicles and displaced several items but took nothing of value.
Manheim Township Police Det. Jonathan Martin filed the charges.
