A Lancaster city teenager was sentenced to two-and-a-half to six years in state prison after he pleaded guilty last week to attempting to rob an 11-year-old at gunpoint in February 2024.
Judge Merrill Spahn sentenced Jadriel Perez-Quinones, of the 800 block of South Duke Street, after he pleaded guilty Jan. 27 to charges of robbery, firearms not to be carried without a license and possession of a firearm by a minor.
Perez-Quinones, 17, pointed a handgun at the victim and demanded their money, then ran off when the victim refused to comply.
The then-16-year-old Perez-Quinones had pre-arranged the sale of an iPhone on social media and agreed to meet the victim in front of a Turkey Hill in the 400 block of South Duke Street around 10:45 p.m. on Feb. 16, 2024.
But when the victim arrived, Perez-Quinones instead unzipped his jacket, revealing a handgun, which he pointed at the victim and then demanded that the victim “give me the money.”
The victim did not give any money to Perez-Quinones, who then fled.
Lancaster Safety Coalition video showed Perez-Quinones approaching the scene from his apartment complex as well as the incident itself and his attempt to flee through a nearby playground.
An attorney representing Perez-Quinones told the court that he has trouble with “poor decision-making when he’s bored,” but expects him to obtain a GED during his incarceration and become a “productive member” of society upon his release.
Assistant District Attorney Janie Swinehart prosecuted the case.
Lancaster City Police Officer Harry Valverde filed the charges.
