A Lancaster man was sentenced to 5 ½ to 11 years in prison after being convicted of illegally possessing a loaded firearm with three extended magazines and a laser attachment.
Taylor McCoy Wike III, 30, was convicted by jury in September; Lancaster County Judge Thomas Sponaugle ordered sentence December 16th.
“[The gun] had three extended magazines and a laser pointer,” Sponaugle said. “This wasn’t for self-defense; this was for something else.”
On January 5, 2021, Wike was operating a car with a dead license plate and pulled into the Sheetz on River Road in East Donegal Township. Police verified the plate belonged to a Ford, not a GMC Yukon that Wike had parked at the gas pumps. The GMC Yukon was towed, and the tow truck driver discovered the 9mm firearm which was turned over to police. The tow truck driver found the firearm after Wike asked him to get an item from the trunk for him.
Wike apologized to his family and the judge when given the opportunity to speak before the sentence was ordered.
Assistant District Attorney Sean Barrett prosecuted the case and asked for a long 20-year tail.
Susquehanna Regional Police Officer Richard Siegel filed charges.
