A Lancaster city man was recently convicted in Lancaster County Court of being a felon in possession of a firearm.
Lavar S. Coffield, 24 of the 400 block of W. James Street, was found guilty by jury on November 9th, 2022 after a one-day jury trial before Lancaster County Judge Dennis Reinaker.
The jury deliberated for approximately 30 minutes before rendering the verdict.
US Marshals were investigating Coffield, who was wanted on a state parole violation. On July 6, 2020, troopers and marshals made contact with Coffield as he was seated in a Volkswagen Passat in the 200 block of Eden Road, Manheim Township.
Police found a loaded, black semi-automatic 9mm handgun with seven rounds in Coffield’s waistband and $2,775 in cash in his pocket.
Coffield was charged with persons not to possess a firearm, a first-degree felony since he had a prior conviction of robbery while in possession of a handgun.
Coffield is currently in Lancaster County Prison.
Sentencing will occur at a later date.
Assistant District Attorney Christopher Miller prosecuted the case.
Pennsylvania State Police Trooper Michael Schatzmann filed charges.
