A judge sentenced an East Earl Township man to four to 10 years in state prison last week after he pleaded guilty earlier this year of raping and sexually assaulting a woman.

Judge Dennis Reinaker handed down the sentence to Elliot Matthew Nguyen, 25, on May 27. Nguyen had pleaded guilty in January to charges of rape by forcible compulsion, sexual assault and two counts each of indecent assault and aggravated indecent assault.

In a written statement provided to the court the victim said Nguyen’s actions “changed my life forever,” stating that she’s suffered nightmares and financial difficulties in the aftermath.

“I have been more aware of my surroundings,” the victim wrote. “I am more skeptical of people. I was and still can be very jumpy around people.”

Assistant District Attorney Samantha Tropp, who prosecuted the case, told the court that the victim fought back against Nguyren and “begged him to stop” when he raped and sexually assaulted her at a residence in the 5500 block of Division Highway in June 2025.

When given the chance to speak before his sentencing Nguyen apologized for his actions and said he was “not in the right mindset” at the time of the offense.

But even if Nguyen is remorseful for his actions, “that doesn’t change the fact that this crime took place,” the victim wrote. Tropp also argued that Nguyen’s apology would not mitigate the impact the incident had on the victim or the seriousness of the offense.

East Earl Township Police Officer Gary Sensenig filed the charges.
