A Carlisle man will serve a prison term and probation for groping a Lancaster County girl during a door-to-door sales trip last year when he attempted to sell replacement windows.
Austin Kann, 20, was convicted at trial in March of unlawful contact with a minor, indecent assault without consent and corruption of minors.
On Wednesday, Lancaster County Judge Howard F. Knisely sentenced Kann to 3 to 23 months in prison (eligible for work release) followed by three years of probation.
Assistant District Attorney Amy Muller presented evidence at trial that Kann was going door-to-door attempting to sell replacement windows was when he assaulted a girl at a Warwick Township home.
Kann groped the girl after asking her to come outside her home and show him a window.
A neighbor testified that he called 911 and pursued Kann after the victim’s relative told him what happened right after it happened.
At sentencing, ADA Muller countered Kann’s request for a sentence below state guidelines, arguing that while Kann has been employed, the offense happened while he was working.
ADA Muller stressed that our children and communities must be protected, and that prison is warranted.
As part of sentence, Kann must abide by sex offender conditions and register his whereabouts with police for 25 years.
Northern Lancaster County Regional police Officer Matthew Hinkle filed charges. Officers from Northern Lancaster County Regional police and Lititz police assisted in the case.
