A Harrisburg man was sentenced to 1 ½ to 10 years in prison Monday for attempting to have sex with a 14-year-old after a sting by the Lancaster County Human Trafficking Task Force.
Brette Giles, 35 of the 5200 block of Wynnewood Road, was sentenced by Lancaster County President Judge David Ashworth after the defendant admitted to agreeing to pay $100 for sex to an undercover agent posing as a 14-year-old.
Giles pleaded guilty to charges of attempting to patronize a victim of human trafficking, attempted statutory sexual assault (11 years older), criminal use of a communication facility, attempted corruption of minors, and attempted indecent assault of a person less than 16.
The Lancaster County Human Trafficking Task Force conducted an undercover detail in January 2023 focused on the solicitation of sex from minors.
Giles agreed to pay $100 to have sex with the minor and traveled to an agreed location, where he was apprehended with the money and a condom on his person.
Giles must register as a sex offender with the Pennsylvania State Police for the rest of his life.
Assistant District Attorney Fritz Haverstick prosecuted the case.
West Lampeter Township Police Department Detective Sergeant Steven Heinly filed charges.
