A Peach Bottom man was sentenced to two to seven years in state prison after he pleaded guilty last month to repeatedly sexually abusing a young girl for years.
Judge Merrill Spahn sentenced Thomas Edward Irwin, formerly of Peach Bottom, after he pleaded guilty April 24 to two counts of indecent assault of a person less than 13 years of age, unlawful contact with a minor, endangering the welfare of children, disseminating explicit sexual material of a minor, two counts of corruption of minors and indecent exposure. Irwin is already incarcerated in state prison on separate offenses.
Irwin, 77, abused the victim on multiple occasions at a Manheim Township address. The majority of the incidents occurred when the victim was in the second and third grades, from about 2016 to 2019.
Additionally, Irwin also showed the victim pornography and instructed her to perform the acts shown in the videos on him. Irwin also told the victim to switch the pornography to the Disney Channel if anyone else entered the room.
The victim also told police that Irwin purchased toys for her for sexual purposes.
Speaking to police, Irwin said young girls have a sexual “proclivity” and that he “gave in” to the victim and found their conversations to be “salacious,” though he denied sexually assaulting her.
Police began investigating Irwin in March 2024 when the victim reported the assaults.
Irwin has already been incarcerated since 2019 on separate offenses involving the sexual assault of different victim who was between the ages of 7 and 12.
Assistant District Attorney Fritz Haverstick prosecuted the case.
Manheim Township Police Detective Sarah Goss filed the charges.
