An East Drumore Township man charged with attempting to stab his father to death in his own home will have his case proceed to county court after stipulating to a prima facia case based on the Commonwealth’s allegations.
Judge William Mankin ruled Sept. 14 that the case of Jared Antonio Navarro, 24, could proceed to the Court of Common Pleas on charges of attempted criminal homicide, aggravated assault, recklessly endangering another person, possession of an instrument of crime and simple assault. That ruling came after Navarro stipulated to the Commonwealth’s allegations that he stabbed the victim multiple times in the back with a knife at their shared residence in the 100 block of Groffdale Drive the morning of Sept. 1.
The victim suffered multiple stab wounds to his back and was transported to a local hospital for treatment.
Police arrived at the residence shortly after 6 a.m. and heard the victim yelling for help. The victim, who was bleeding heavily, told officers that Navarro had stabbed him.
Officers arrested Navarro after they discovered him hiding in a closet and attempting to climb into the attic.
When police searched the residence they discovered a bloodied steak knife in a bedroom and a pool of blood on the mattress and sheets.
Navarro remains in Lancaster County Prison in lieu of $250,000 bail. As part of his bail conditions Navarro must stay away from the apartment complex where the incident occurred.
Quarryville Borough police Officer Jonathan Keene filed the charges.
All defendants are presumed innocent until proven guilty.
