A Lancaster city woman pleaded guilty last week to seriously injuring a man when she crashed into his vehicle while driving intoxicated.
Evangeline L. Roth, of the 500 block of West Walnut Street, after she pleaded guilty before Judge Dennis Reinaker on July 29 to charges of aggravated assault by vehicle while driving under the influence, aggravated assault by vehicle, three counts of driving under the influence and two summary offenses. Judge Reinaker will sentence Roth following the conclusion of a pre-sentence investigation.
Roth, 20, was under the influence of a combination of drugs and alcohol when she rear-ended the victim’s vehicle, causing it to lunge into oncoming traffic on the State Route 462 bridge in West Hempfield Township the evening of June 22, 2024.
The victim suffered a serious spinal injury that required surgery. Had the victim not undergone the surgery he could have been permanently paralyzed from a minor fall.
Roth, who was 19 at the time and under the legal drinking age performed poorly on a subsequent field sobriety test. A blood test determined she had a BAC of 0.214%, as well as ethanol and THC, in the hours after the crash.
Assistant District Attorney Chris Miller prosecuted the case.
West Hempfield Township Police Officer Ruhama Lamure filed the charges.
