A Lancaster city teenager charged with firing a gun at man in an ambush outside a city home will have his case proceed to county court after waiving his preliminary hearing last month.
Amari Poole, of the first block of West New Street, waived his preliminary hearing before Judge Jodie Richardson on March 27 on charges of attempted criminal homicide, aggravated assault, conspiracy to commit aggravated assault, firearms not to be carried without a license, possession of a firearm by a minor, discharge of a firearm into an occupied structure, possession of a firearm prohibited and recklessly endangering another person.
Poole, 15, is accused of shooting a gun at the victim outside a residence in the 400 block of Green Street the afternoon of Dec. 13, 2024.
Lancaster Safety Coalition video showed Poole and two other individuals, all wearing face coverings, exiting a vehicle in front of the residence shortly before 4:30 p.m. and then lying in wait. Poole and a second person, Willito Colon, then opened fire on the victim when he walked onto the residence’s porch.
Poole fled the scene after the shooting.
Police who were patrolling nearby responded to the scene after hearing the sound of gunfire, only to find a vehicle driven by Poole’s mother, Lindsay Colon, speeding away in reverse on Dauphin Street and initiated a traffic stop. Upon approaching the vehicle, the officers noticed the odor of recently fired ammunition.
Officers spotted a handgun in plain sight on the rear passenger floor board after the vehicle’s occupants, Lindsay and Willito Colon, exited the vehicle.
The residence sustained damage during the shooting.
Additionally, Poole is prohibited by law from possessing a firearm due to his criminal history and due to the fact that he is a juvenile.
Poole is currently being held at the Lancaster County Youth Intervention Center in lieu of $500,000 bail.
The cases for Lindsay Colon and Willito Colon are still pending.
Lancaster City Bureau of Police Officer William Hamby filed the charges.
Assistant District Attorney Anthony Gilbert will prosecute the case.
All defendants are presumed innocent until proven guilty.
