Since Lancaster County Crime Stoppers began reapproaching how it attempts to reach potential tipsters in mid-2025 it has seen a noticeable increase in people providing valuable information that police are using to help solve crimes.
Lancaster County Crime Stoppers’ ramped-up presence on social media is reaching a growing audience. The increased public engagement from those efforts has resulted in a corresponding 21% increase in tips from the public, many of which have proven valuable in helping law enforcement solve crimes.
Tipsters have provided information on incidents ranging from relatively minor ones such as illegally parked vehicles to drug activity in their neighborhoods. They have also provided police with tips regarding the whereabouts of wanted people, as well as information regarding unsolved crimes such as thefts, shootings and homicides.
These tips came from individuals in the community who provided information about crimes to Lancaster County Crime Stoppers that were then forwarded to the appropriate local police departments for investigation. When appropriate, cash rewards were provided to these individuals when the information they provided was valuable to investigators.
Some rewards were also given to individuals who shared information directly to police which was deemed valuable enough that Lancaster County Crime Stoppers provided them with cash. Law enforcement can nominate tipsters for rewards though Crime Stoppers if they believe the information given was critical to solving a crime.
The majority of tips received by Lancaster County Crime Stoppers in 2025 came during the second half of the year after the organization announced it was reapproaching how it would communicate its mission of giving cash rewards to tipsters who help police solve crimes. Those efforts included increasing the number of cases and unsolved crimes that Lancaster County Crime Stoppers has spotlighted.
Moving forward, Lancaster County Crime Stoppers aims to continue expanding its social media footprint.
