On February 4, 2025, at 6:00 AM, the Pennsylvania State Police, Chambersburg Police Department, United States Marshal's Service, and the Franklin County Sheriff's Office conducted a search warrant at the residence of 72 S. Main St., Apartment 7, related to the two recent shootings in the Borough of Chambersburg on January 12 and 31, 2025. During the search of the residence, Ky'Jarese Hicks, Mikaija Mitchell, Aaron Helman Jr., and Shataija Edwards were arrested. Mikaija Mitchell had previously been arrested on February 1, 2025, for his involvement in the shooting the night prior, January 31, 2025. During the search warrant on February 4, Mitchell, who was out on bail from his previous arrest, and Edwards were found to have known the wanted status of Hicks and Helman and illegally hindered law enforcement's efforts to apprehend them. Both Mitchell and Edwards were arrested for Hindering Apprehension or Prosecution, as well as Mitchell being charged with Manufacturing, Possession, and/or Distribution of a Controlled Substance.
Hicks, Mitchell, Helman, and Edwards were all arraigned by MDJ Manns and transported to the Franklin County Jail. Although arrests have been made in both of these cases, the investigations are still active and ongoing.
Violence within our community will not be tolerated by the police or the citizens. CPD is dedicated and has been working tirelessly to bring order back to the community.
