Chambersburg Area School District Students Return August 19

The Chambersburg Police Department reminds motorists that school resumes Wednesday, August 19, 2026, throughout the Chambersburg Area School District.

As students return to classrooms, drivers should expect increased traffic, school buses, and pedestrians—particularly during the morning and afternoon commute.

Watch for School Buses

• Slow down and be prepared to stop when approaching a school bus with its red lights flashing and stop arm extended.
• Never pass a stopped school bus.
• Give buses plenty of room when they pull into or leave a stop.
• Be especially alert for children who may unexpectedly enter or cross the roadway.

Watch for Student Pedestrians

• Slow down in school zones and residential areas.
• Stop for pedestrians in marked crosswalks and remain stopped until they have safely crossed.
• Be alert for students crossing near bus stops, intersections, and school entrances.
• Avoid distractions and keep your attention on the roadway.

Put the Phone Down
A few seconds of distraction can have serious consequences. Keep your eyes up, your hands on the wheel, and your attention on the road.
