Dear South Mountain Region Friends and Partners,
Update 4/25/25 at 11:30 AM.
We request your help responding as a community to the wildfires in Michaux State Forest. The Hammonds Rock and Thompson Hollow fires are still active and evolving. Containing the fires is difficult, and high-risk weather conditions for fire spread are expected throughout the day. Currently, the focus is helping first responders, Michaux State Forest staff, and Parks staff.
Please lend a hand. Here is what you can do:
· Please share this information with your network. Most critically, advise your communities to avoid the areas of Michaux State Forest north of Rt 30, Kings Gap and Pine Grove State Park, and the roads surrounding them.
o Repost this Facebook Post to your professional and personal pages.
o Share this email/this information with your contacts.
· Support our First Responders: Needs vary with each Fire Department, but consider supporting them through monetary donations or non-perishable items like Gatorade, snacks, and water at stations.
The situation is rapidly evolving. Here are some resources to stay up to date on the fires.
· PA DCNR and Michuax State Forest will continue to provide mapping and reports of fire containment.
· The Interagency Wildland Fire Air Quality Response Program uses this tool to monitor air quality and fire locations.
Thank you for your assistance in communicating these key messages.
Sincerely,
The South Mountain Partnership Team (Katie Hess, Julia Chain, and Tyler Semder)
