The Swatara Township Police Department would like to warn residents and visitors of the Township and the surrounding area that we have experienced a recent increase in the number of break-ins to vehicles while parked at local businesses, gyms, hotels, and motels.  PLEASE remember to lock your doors when away from your vehicle, and DO NOT leave items of value in plain view within your vehicle.  Thieves are looking for purses, wallets, electronics, etc., that have been left behind in your car, and they will not hesitate to open your door or break your window to steal what you've left behind.  If you plan to store those items in your trunk, put them in the trunk BEFORE you arrive at your destination. Some thieves will surveil parking lots and look for people who are putting items into their trunk before entering a business, and then break into the trunk of the vehicle.  At this point, we do not believe that these thieves pose any threat to the personal safety of other people, but they are very interested in taking your property.
