During the week of August 3rd through August 7th, the Swatara Township Police Department held their second annual Youth Police Program. This program is open to 13 through 15 year old children who are interested in a career in law enforcement OR who simply want to learn more about what the police do on a daily basis. We had nine participants this year, the majority of whom reside within Swatara Township or Paxtang Borough. The cadets explored topics that included Police Forensics, Police K-9, Interviewing for Law Enforcement, DUI Investigations, Traffic Stops, Use of Force in Law Enforcement, Firearms Safety and more. Throughout the week the cadets got to spend time with various officers from our department who are considered experts in their field. Lunch was provided each day to the cadets courtesy of Wal-Mart (Grayson Road) and Gennaro's Pizza (Paxton Street). On graduation day the cadets received a Certificate of Completion as well as a gift bag from our department. Our officers had a great time getting to know the young men who participated in this year's program. It's important to our officers that we continue to build healthy relationships with our community members, especially our youth. Congratulations to all of the participant's this year for a job well done!
If you have a son or daughter who is interested in participating in next year's program please visit our website in April of 2021 for additional information and to download a copy of our application. This program is open to residents and non-residents of Swatara Township and Paxtang Borough.
