Over the past several years the Swatara Township Police Department has partnered with the Harrisburg Police Athletic League, which mentors children through sports and police relations. The mission of HPAL is to be an alternative crime prevention organization that uses educational, athletic and recreational activities to bring the community, police officers and youth together. Each year, HPAL hosts a Dancing with the Stars of Harrisburg event which is the organization's largest fundraiser. HPAL depends on the proceeds of this fundraiser to help continue athletic and mentoring programs as well as support new initiatives. HPAL programs support hundreds of children each year at little to no cost to families across the Harrisburg area. This year, due to COVID-19, the Dancing with the Stars of Harrisburg Gala has gone virtual. I large amount of the money raised each year comes from event sponsors and silent auction participants. Director of Public Safety Darrell Reider along with his wife Shelly were winners of the 2017 Chief's Dance Competition. This year, you have an opportunity to donate to HPAL by voting for your favorite past DWS of Harrisburg winner (please follow the link below). You may also visit the Virtual Silent Auction by clicking on the link below and bidding on any item of your choosing. The silent auction ends on 9/12/20 at 10pm and all of the proceeds go towards HPAL. This auction is full of wonderful items, many of which include gift baskets that make perfect gifts for the upcoming holiday season. Please consider donating to this worthy program so that it may continue to offer services to our youth for years to come! The Harrisburg Police Athletic League and the Swatara Township Police Department both Thank You for your continued support of all of our law enforcement officers.
