Citizens Police Academy Program Now Accepting Applications!

Have you ever wondered what it would be like to be a police officer?  The Swatara Township Police Department will be hosting its 8th annual Citizens Police Academy for residents and non-residents in March of 2021.  The academy will give citizens an inside look at all of the different aspects of policing.  Topics of discussion will include Patrol and Traffic Enforcement, Police K-9, Forensics, Police Use of Force, the PA Court System, Community Services, Criminal Investigations, Drug Investigations, Police Administration, Dauphin County CRT (SWAT Team) and many more.

Academy classes will include presentations from our officers who are experts in their specific field.  The academy will also incorporate various field trips to criminal justice facilities within the county of Dauphin to include Dauphin County Prison, Dauphin County Judicial Center, Dauphin County Court House, Dauphin County Communications Center and Magisterial District Judge Michael Smith’s Office.  The Citizens Police Academy is a great program for anyone who is interested in a career in law enforcement OR anyone who simply wants to learn more about what the police do.

WE ARE NOW ACCEPTING APPLICATIONS FOR THE 2021 CITIZENS POLICE ACADEMY. 

ALL APPLICATIONS ARE DUE NO LATER THAN FEBRUARY 3, 2021.

When:  Starting March 1, 2021 through May 3, 2021.  Class meets every Monday evening from 6:00pm to 8:30pm.

Where:  The Swatara Township Municipal building inside the Commissioners Public Hearing Room.

Who:  Residents and non-residents of Swatara Twp. and Paxtang Borough who are at least 16 years of age.  Class size is limited to 22 cadets.
