🍎🚸 Back-to-School Traffic Safety Initiative 🚸🍎

As summer begins to wind down, the Steelton Borough Police Department is preparing for the return of students to school on Monday, August 17, 2026.

With the start of the new school year, our officers will be placing an increased emphasis on traffic enforcement in the areas most frequently used by students as they walk, ride bicycles, and travel to and from school.

Our mission is simple: to create safe traffic corridors for every student traveling to and from school.

During this initiative, officers will focus on:
🚦 Speed enforcement in and around school zones.
🛑 Stop sign and traffic signal compliance.
🚸 Failure to yield to pedestrians at crosswalks.
📵 Distracted driving, including the use of handheld devices.
🚌 School bus stop-arm violations.
🚗 Unsafe driving behaviors that place students and pedestrians at risk.

We ask all motorists to do their part by slowing down, eliminating distractions, obeying traffic laws, and remaining alert for children who may unexpectedly enter the roadway. A few extra seconds of caution can prevent a lifetime of regret.

Parents are also encouraged to speak with their children about pedestrian safety by using designated crosswalks, looking both ways before crossing, and remaining attentive while walking to and from school.

The Steelton Borough Police Department is committed to ensuring that every student has a safe journey to and from school each day. Together, through education, awareness, and enforcement, we can make our roadways safer for everyone.
