Trick-or-Treat Safety Tips from the Penbrook Borough Police Department
It's that spooky time of the year again! Halloween is just around the corner, and we're excited to see all the little ghosts, goblins, and superheroes out trick-or-treating in our community on October 31st from 6pm until 8pm. As your local police department, we want to ensure that everyone has a fun and safe Halloween. Here are some important safety tips to keep in mind:
- Plan Ahead: Map out a safe trick-or-treat route in advance, and make sure it's well-lit and free of obstacles.
- Stay in Groups: Trick-or-treat in groups, and make sure there's at least one adult chaperone per group.
- Use Reflective Tape or Glow Sticks: Add some reflective tape or glow sticks to your costumes to increase visibility when walking in the dark.
- Only Visit Well-Lit Houses: Stick to houses that are well-lit and welcoming. Avoid dark or spooky houses that might be a safety risk.
- Check Candy Before Eating: Inspect all candy and treats before allowing your little ones to eat them. Look for open packaging, tampering, or homemade treats.
- Stay on the Sidewalk: Whenever possible, stick to sidewalks and avoid walking in the street. If there's no sidewalk, walk on the edge of the road facing traffic.
- Be Visible: Wear bright, reflective costumes or add some glow-in-the-dark accessories to make sure drivers can see you.
- Stay Connected: Make sure your child has a way to communicate with you, such as a cell phone or a two-way radio.
By following these simple safety tips, you can help ensure a fun and safe Halloween for everyone in our community. Happy trick-or-treating!
