The Lower Swatara Township Police Department, in collaboration with the Dauphin County Forensic Team, Fire Investigation Unit, Coroner's Office, and District Attorney's Office, has conducted an exhaustive investigation into this incident.
Forensic evidence indicates that the fire that destroyed the residence at 508 Morgan Drive was not accidental in nature. It has been determined that two victims suffered severe blunt force trauma at the hands of a third individual prior to the third person intentionally setting the fire inside the house. After setting the fire, the perpetrator died of fire-related injuries inside the residence.
At present, the identities of the individuals are not being disclosed, pending confirmation through positive identification and notification of their next of kin. The investigation remains ongoing.
The swift outcome of this operation would not have been possible without the collaborative efforts of all participating agencies, the Fire Services, and the numerous individuals who willingly shared information and provided video footage of the area.
Around 7:30 am, emergency responders from the Lower Swatara Township Police and Fire Departments rushed to the 500 block of Morgan Drive after receiving a fire alarm call. Shortly after, multiple reports of smoke from the residence poured in. Upon arrival, the first responders found the house engulfed in flames, with initial reports suggesting people might be trapped inside.
The Fire Department sprang into action, battling the blaze, but was forced to retreat when the roof began to collapse. Before evacuating the structure, one victim was discovered deceased. Once the fire was brought under control and the scene was secured, two more victims were found deceased inside the home.
The Lower Swatara Township Fire Department received support from multiple neighboring fire departments, including Middletown, Harrisburg International Airport, Steelton, Harrisburg City, Colonial Park, Londonderry Township, and York County. Highspire and Londonderry Township Fire Police also lent a hand.
The Dauphin County Coroner's Office, Dauphin County Forensic Team, and Fire Marshal are currently on the scene, collaborating on the investigation.
