Build a Career, Join the Harrisburg Bureau of Police

The Harrisburg Bureau of Police is accepting applications for the entry level police officer exam. The fee to participate is $50.00. The deadline to apply is July 05, 2024 at Midnight.

Physical Agility Testing will take place on Saturday, 13 July, 2024 at Harrisburg City Island (Carousel Pavilion) and the Written Test will take place on Sunday, July 14, 2024 at Commonwealth Charter Academy. 

This is an Entry level police officer position, ACT120 Certification is not needed to apply.

In order to formally apply for employment as a Police Officer with the City of Harrisburg, you must satisfy the following General Qualifications pursuant to the Harrisburg Civil Service Rules and Regulations:

General Requirements:

  • Age - Must be at least 21 years of age by July 22, 2024  
  • Citizenship - Must be a U.S. Citizen.
  • Education - Must have graduated from high school or received a G.E.D., or received an equivalent education acceptable to the Harrisburg Civil Service Commission.
  • Driver's License - Must possess a current valid driver's license which has not been restored or suspended since July 22, 2021.
  • General - Must be able to perform the essential job functions of Police Officer as defined in the Harrisburg Civil Service Rules and Regulations. You must achieve a 70% on the written test to move on in the process. Submission of a formal application will need to be completed by those who score a 70% or higher.
