In 2025, we continued our focus to reduce crime and improve overall safety throughout Harrisburg, with a particular emphasis on violent crime reduction. Through the Gun Violence Investigation and Prosecution Grant (GVIP), the Bureau's GVIP team supported community-based safety initiatives. These initiatives included saturation details throughout the City, as well as the installation of exterior lighting and doorbells in residential neighborhoods. GVIP also enabled the implementation of Automated License Plate Readers (ALPRs) to enhance the Bureau's investigative techniques. These license plate readers assisted the Bureau with solving crimes, including an aggravated assault involving a shooting.
Throughout the year, we remained committed to building and maintaining strong relationships within the community. The Bureau engaged with the public through various events, hosting the 2025 National Night Out, and several outreach programs. One such program is the newly implemented mentorship program, in which Community Service Aides (CSAs) go to elementary and middle schools to speak with students about various issues and to promote positive community involvement.
We continued to invest in the professional development of both our Officers and non-sworn personnel. In 2025, Bureau members participated in 254 training sessions covering a wide range of topics. This commitment to on-going education and best practices ensures our personnel remain well-equipped to serve our City with integrity, accountability, and professionalism.
We would like to thank the City of Harrisburg community for its continued support. By working together, we will make 2026 a safer year for Harrisburg City residents and visitors to live, work, and play.
