Oleita Sims, 63, of the 500 Block of Manor Street, Lancaster, has pleaded guilty in the Dauphin County Court of Common Pleas to charges of identity theft, forgery, access device fraud and theft by deception for a scam that victimized a 62-year-old man she met on the social networking  site “tagged.com”.

Judge Andrew H. Dowling sentenced her to three years of probation.

Sims admitted that she met the victim on the “tagged.com” site and began traveling to Lower Paxton Township to meet with him.  They became involved in an intimate relationship.  At some point, Sims stole the routing number to the victim’s bank account and attempted to use that pay a $744 utility bill for a relative.  She also stole his Bank of America Visa card and used it to buy pizza and other food on several occasions.

The victim stated in court that Sims told him she was a psychiatrist with millions of dollars, which he came to doubt.

Detective Mark Brumaghim of the Lower Paxton Police Department investigated the case and filed the criminal charges.

“It’s a cautionary tale about meeting people you know only through the Internet”, said Deputy District Attorney David Wilson.
