October 30, 2018- Commonwealth v. Ashley M. Evans: On October 30, 2018, following a non-jury trial, Dauphin County Judge Deborah E. Curcillo convicted Ashley M. Evans, 24, of Criminal Attempt- Homicide, Carrying a Firearm without a License, and Theft by Receiving Stolen Property.
The incident occurred September 20, 2017 outside of the 100 block of Evergreen Street in Harrisburg City. Evans was in a vehicle across the street, and when the victim started to walk down the sidewalk, she opened fire on him. One bullet struck a window beside where the victim was standing and lodged in the living room wall of the house on Evergreen Street. Two more bullets struck the vehicle where the victim had ducked for cover. The victim testified that he had previously learned of the Evans’ plan to rob one of his neighbors and he had warned the intended victim, thwarting her robbery plans. The victim believed that incident was the basis for the shooting.
Later on September 20, 2017, Cpl. Brian Henry and Detective Libertad Ramos from the Harrisburg Bureau of Police recovered a stolen car that the defendant had been driving. In that car was the hooded sweatshirt that the defendant was wearing during the shooting with her DNA on it and a .40 caliber handgun. That gun was a forensic match to the casings found at the scene of the shooting.
Sentencing is scheduled for December 19, 2018 before the Honorable Judge Deborah E. Curcillo.
This case was investigated by Detective Libertad Ramos of the Harrisburg Bureau of Police and prosecuted by Deputy District Attorney Katie Adam.
