March 6, 2015- Commonwealth v. Jeffrey Cropper: On March 6, 2015, defendant Jeffrey Cropper pleaded guilty to Aggravated Assault against his girlfriend. On April 20, 2014, Cropper and his girlfriend got into an argument inside their mutual home in Harrisburg City. When the girlfriend tried to leave the home with her two children (ages three and seven), Cropper followed her outside, put his hands on her neck, and attempted to strangle her in front of both children as she struggled and begged for him to stop. He finally did when a neighbor intervened; when the officer arrived, the victim was coughing and gasping for breath on the side of the road. Cropper was arrested shortly thereafter.
Cropper received a sentence of four years to ten years in a state correctional institute for his crime. Abby Trovinger, Deputy District Attorney, states, “Domestic violence crimes are inherently complex, and it is often very difficult to achieve real justice. I believe justice is finally served with this result.”
