May 4, 2018- District Attorney Fran Chardo presented the following awards this morning:
2018 Sergeant Robert "Bo" McCallister Award
for Outstanding Service as a Patrol Officer
For exceptional service as a uniformed officer, the Dauphin County District Attorney, after consultation with the Dauphin County Chiefs of Police, presents Officer Joshua P. Dupler of the Susquehanna Township Police Department with the 2018 Sergeant Robert "Bo" McCallister Award for Outstanding Service as a Patrol Officer. Through your initiative and commitment to duty, you have served as a model for all officers to emulate. Your outstanding work reflects great credit upon yourself, your community, and your police department.
2018 Detective Samuel Thomas Kohr Memorial Award
for Outstanding Service as a Detective
For exceptional service as a detective, the Dauphin County District Attorney, after consultation with the Dauphin County Chiefs of Police, presents Detective Richard J. Iachini, Jr., of the Harrisburg Bureau of Police, with the 2018 Detective Samuel Thomas Kohr Memorial Award for Outstanding Service as a Detective. Through your initiative and dogged pursuit of justice, you have served as a model for all officers to emulate. Your outstanding work reflects great credit upon yourself, your community, and your police department.
2018 LeRoy S. Zimmerman Award
for Outstanding Service as a Prosecutor
For exceptional service as a prosecuting attorney, the Dauphin County District Attorney presents Chief Deputy District Attorney Johnny Baer with the 2018 LeRoy S. Zimmerman Award for Outstanding Service by a Prosecutor. By your tireless commitment to seeking truth, you have advanced the cause of justice. Your outstanding work reflects great credit upon yourself, your community, and the Dauphin County District Attorney’s Office.

for Outstanding Service by a Citizen
For exceptional service as a citizen, the Dauphin County District Attorney, after consultation with the Dauphin County Chiefs of Police, presents Kerry N. Hitt with the 2018 District Attorney’s Award for Outstanding Service by a Citizen. Justice is the business of the entire community, not just the courts and the police. By his actions, he has shown recognition of this truth. Mr. Hitt assisted the police in obtaining important video evidence in connection with a shooting perpetrated by Ahmed el-Mofty on December 22, 2017.

for Outstanding Service by a Citizen
For exceptional service as a citizen, the Dauphin County District Attorney, after consultation with the Dauphin County Chiefs of Police, presents Renato P. Dellaporta, Jr., with the 2018 District Attorney’s Award for Outstanding Service by a Citizen. Justice is the business of the entire community, not just the courts and the police. By his actions, he has shown recognition of this truth. Mr. Dellaporta closed his business and allowed the police and Federal Bureau of Investigation to use it as a command post in connection with a shooting perpetrated by Ahmed el-Mofty on December 22, 2017. He also assisted the police in obtaining video evidence that aided the investigation.

For exceptional service as a citizen, the Dauphin County District Attorney, after consultation with the Dauphin County Chiefs of Police, presents Juan Carlos Valdez Ramos with the 2018 District Attorney’s Award for Outstanding Service by a Citizen. Justice is the business of the entire community, not just the courts and the police. By his actions, he has shown recognition of this truth. Mr. Valdez Ramos assisted the police in obtaining important video evidence in connection with a shooting perpetrated by Ahmed el-Mofty on December 22, 2017.
The District Attorney’s Award of Valor
The Dauphin County District Attorney, after consultation with the Dauphin County Chiefs of Police, presents the Award of Valor to Trooper Wesley A. Johnson of the Pennsylvania State Police for extraordinary bravery in the line of duty. On December 22, 2017, Ahmed el-Mofty set out to use deadly force upon as many law enforcement officers as he could. After unprovoked firing upon officers elsewhere in the city, el-Mofty began firing upon officers in the area of 17th and Mulberry Streets in the City of Harrisburg. Without regard to their own safety, Trooper Wesley A. Johnson and Officer Chad McGowan took decisive action to end the threat el-Mofty posed to other officers and the public at large.
